Frequently asked questions
What is a pip?
Smallest standard price move. For most pairs, pip = 0.0001 (4th decimal). For JPY pairs, pip = 0.01 (2nd decimal). 1 pip on standard lot ≈ $10 for USD-quoted pairs.
What are pipettes?
Fractional pips — 5th decimal for non-JPY pairs, 3rd decimal for JPY pairs. 10 pipettes = 1 pip.
Why convert to account currency?
Your P&L is reported in account currency. A EUR/GBP trade's pip value is in GBP; if account is USD, you need GBP→USD conversion.
Lot sizes?
Standard lot = 100K units. Mini lot = 10K. Micro lot = 1K. Nano lot = 100 (rare). Most retail brokers default to mini or micro.
