When are arrears paid?
Often when the appraisal cycle (April) and actual disbursement (June/July) don't align. Companies pay the delta as "arrears" in the month of implementation.
Are arrears taxed?
Fully taxable in year of receipt. But Section 89 provides relief to avoid pushing you into a higher slab — file Form 10E before ITR.
Is increment always a hike?
Mostly yes, but "increment" can also be a formal grade/step change without a large hike. Verify hike % in your letter, not just title.
