Why use total return?
Capital gains alone underreport true return for dividend stocks. TSR (Total Shareholder Return) is the standard for comparing long-term performance.
Does this account for reinvested dividends?
This calc assumes dividends taken as cash. For reinvested, use DRIP Calculator — returns are higher.
Is CAGR accurate?
Yes for a single buy-sell transaction. For multiple buys/sells at different times, use XIRR for accurate annualised return.
Pre or post-tax?
Pre-tax. Adjust by ~10–20% for LTCG and dividend tax (Indian slab applies to dividends) for after-tax return.
