Frequently asked questions
Why use CAGR instead of absolute return?
Absolute return tells you total %, but ignores time. 50% over 5 years and 50% over 2 years are very different. CAGR standardises this to a per-year basis.
What is a good CAGR for mutual funds?
Indian equity funds over long periods have delivered 12–15% CAGR. Debt funds: 6–8%. Beating Nifty 50 (~12% long-term) is the hurdle for active funds.
Does this work for SIP investments?
No — SIP involves multiple investment dates, so you need XIRR. This calculator is for lumpsum or single-date inputs.
Are these returns tax-adjusted?
No. For equity funds, long-term gains (>1 year) above ₹1L are taxed at 10%. Short-term gains are 15%. Debt fund taxation depends on when you bought.
