Frequently asked questions

Operating vs net income — why differ?
Net income includes non-cash items (depreciation) and accruals. OCF adjusts for those. OCF > NI usually = quality earnings.
What is FCF?
Free Cash Flow = OCF - CAPEX. Cash available to pay dividends, buy back shares, reduce debt. The cash that actually reaches owners.
Negative FCF always bad?
No — growth companies invest heavily (Amazon early years). Problem: sustained negative FCF with no path to positive.
Cash flow vs profit?
Profit = accounting; cash flow = reality. Company can show profit but fail from cash shortage. "Cash is king".
